legend
MADARA began with a passion. With a passionate desire of four young Latvian women for a natural lifestyle, and with the need to have a greener, more beautiful, cleaner and safer life.
Lotte was surprised when for the first time in her life she experienced an allergy to a cosmetics product. She read through the list of ingredients of that product and found that most of the ingredients in the expensive eye cream were synthetic and harmful – propylene glycol, mineral oil, silicones, and parabens. Lotte decided to never again use cosmetics that are produced from cancerogenous, toxic and skin irritating ingredients. The search for natural and safe beauty brought Lotte to self-made cosmetics and writing a blog about safe cosmetics to share her experience with other women in Latvia. This is how Lotte met Zane – a passionate advocate for agreen lifestyle employed by a marketing agency. A feminine conversation over coffee led to an idea – to start a production natural cosmetics unit in Latvia. This dream instantly captivated Liene – one of the most successful young designers in Latvia, who started sketching the idea on paper, and Lotte's sister Paula, who already pictured the new products on the store shelves.
The girls named their dream after MADARA – a mysterious plant with a sweet scent, that had grown in the meadows and seaside dunes of the northern country of Latvia for hundreds of years. For centuries wise women had used this and other herbs for beauty and medicine, and now it became a symbol for a story about natural lifestyle, beauty and the strong northern plants.
MADARA was born.
From a dream of four women MADARA has grown into a world known unique producer of natural cosmetics. The principles of high quality of products, modest and good design and fair entrepreneurship are now implemented by a team of forty people together with the founders of MADARA – Zane, Lotte, Paula and Liene. The legend of MADARA has only just begun…
